Miêu tả: | The importance of English speaking is undeniable in language teaching and learning. However, teaching speaking to Mường ethnic students has long been a controversial issue. The thesis investigates difficulties in teaching speaking skills to Mường ethnic learners at Bắc Sơn high school. The data for this study were collected through two survey questionnaires for 140 eleventh- form students and 4 English teachers at Bắc Sơn high school. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The major findings show that teachers’ obstacles in teaching speaking skills to Mường ethnic students can be explained by a variety of reasons such as teachers’ shortage of training in CLT, students’ low English proficiency, students’ limited motivation in learning, the large size of the class, difficulties from the textbook “Tiếng Anh 11”... Additionally, some useful recommendations are proposed based on the research findings for solving the problems M.A. Thesis.
